Medely\u2019s commitment to providing facilities with a cost-effective option for finding contingent staff has allowed us to expand across the country to over 40+ per diem markets, and we\u2019re thrilled to now be adding Nashville to that list.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Nashville Staffing Shortages&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nashville is home to almost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/quickfacts\/fact\/table\/nashvilledavidsonmetropolitangovernmentbalancetennessee\/PST045223\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">700,000 people<\/a> and the neighboring metro cities bring the total population to around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/815653\/nashville-metro-area-population\/#:~:text=Nashville%2DDavidson%2DMurfreesboro%2DFranklin,area%20population%20U.S.%202010%2D2023&amp;text=In%202023%2C%20the%20population%20of,was%20about%202.07%20million%20people.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2 million people<\/a>. The city is a thriving healthcare hub, and according to the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, is home to over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nashvillechamber.com\/economic-development\/target-industries\/health-care\/#:~:text=Nashville%20is%20widely%20recognized%20as,global%20health%20care%20industry%20leader.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">900 healthcare companies<\/a>. Due to the vast number of companies located in the region, the healthcare industry is a major contributor to the Nashville economy and jobs in the area. The Nashville Chamber of Commerce shares that, \u201cThe healthcare industry is Nashville\u2019s largest employer, contributing to 167,916 direct jobs annually.\u201d And with such a large population, having strong healthcare systems is crucial to ensuring patients receive the best possible care.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But even with such a large number of healthcare jobs in Nashville, facilities are still experiencing shortages, which is leading to more nurse burnout and a smaller, strained workforce. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/tha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Tennessee-Health-Workforce-Projections-report-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2021 study<\/a> by the Tennessee Hospital Association, \u201cFTE [full-time employee] supply in 2021 was approximately 62,900 FTEs versus demand of 78,600. (Demand is defined as the number of FTEs required to provide the 2021 average national level of care). Study results show that in 2021, Tennessee needed about 15,700 more RNs to provide a national average level of care accounting for demographics, prevalence of disease and health risk factors, and socioeconomic factors within the state\u2019s population. That is, Tennessee\u2019s supply of RNs was sufficient to meet about 80% of demand.\u201d When facilities are only able to meet about 80% of the demand, quality patient care is sacrificed and nurses end up <a href=\"https:\/\/tha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Tennessee-Health-Workforce-Projections-report-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overworked<\/a> and overwhelmed, leading to burnout and more healthcare professionals choosing to leave the profession.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the study shows that nurses were meeting about 80% of the demand in 2021, as Nashville and the surrounding area continue to expand, a lack of qualified nurses and health professionals can lead to a much more serious, harder-to-control crisis. With a growing population and an increasing number of patients, particularly elderly individuals, requiring more advanced care, it\u2019s essential for facilities to proactively address the healthcare crisis before it becomes unmanageable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Solving staffing challenges&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Facilities have tried several solutions to address the staffing crisis.
