Betty’s healthcare journey
Betty’s parents are both retired nurses, so she believes that growing up in a family with both parents in healthcare helped get her to where she is today. “I feel like, honestly, truly, it’s embedded in my genes. Both of my parents are retired nurses, so that’s all I knew,” Betty shares. Not only did having nurses as parents help push her toward becoming a nurse, but her passion for helping others made it clear that nursing would be a promising career. Betty is motivated to provide the best care for her patients and is passionate about making sure her patients are listened to. “I do like helping a lot of people,” Betty shares. “Advocating for the patient often, especially those patients who do not speak English. English is my first language, but I do speak another language. So, I feel like I can voice the concerns and needs of those patients, especially.”
Thanks to her ability to advocate for her patients’ needs, she’s been able to provide excellent care to her patients. During the pandemic, one particular patient experience sticks out to her as one that helped her confirm she was in the right career. “There was a gentleman, a patient of mine. He seemed well,” Betty shares. “And I just felt like I advocated for him tremendously because he was like, ‘I don’t feel well.’ The doctors and the people were saying, ‘Oh, he’s fine. He has COVID.’ I’m like, ‘No, there’s something wrong with him.’ And at that moment, I saw my father in his face, and then I just escalated it.” Thanks to her quick thinking and advocacy for her patient, she was able to help save his life.
Freedom and flexibility with Medely

If she wants a little extra cash for purchases or even bills, she can easily pick up a shift and make some extra money. Medely’s multiple weekly payouts make it easy for her to see her cash quickly, even if she just picked up the shift a couple of days before. “If I know I want to buy something on Friday, I pick up a shift on Wednesday. By Friday, that money’s in the account,” Betty shares. “I love it. I can really plan for my purchases and bills and whatever, but you’re guaranteed the money at a certain time. You don’t have to wait like two weeks.”
Since deciding to go back to school to be a CRNA, picking up shifts with Medely has allowed her to meet health professionals who have been encouraging and helpful as she starts her journey. “Working with Medely, you interact with different healthcare professionals, and they’re very motivating. They’re very encouraging. Actually, one of the anesthesiologists, he’s like, ‘Listen, when you go down that route, I’ll be sure to help you and tell you what classes to take or what not to take.’” Since Betty will be in school, picking up shifts with Medely allows her to find shifts that will work around her class schedule, giving her more time to study and extra cash to help put her through school.
