Medely has played a major role in helping facilities across the country create a strong extended workforce that they can rely on, even in the midst of the growing healthcare staffing crisis. As Medely continues its mission to help provide a sustainable solution for the continued shortages, we’re excited to expand access to our network of 300K nurses and health professionals to new areas, one of which is our brand-new per diem market in Kansas City.

What is Medely?

Medely started in 2015 with the mission to change the way healthcare works by empowering healthcare professionals and facilities with a best-in-class technology platform that delivers economic opportunity and operational efficiency.

Medely helps facilities bridge short-term staffing gaps, long-term staffing needs, or one-off shifts that arise by connecting them with credentialed nurses and health professionals in their area. Medely nurses and health professionals go through a credentialing process to be accepted on the platform, which includes ensuring all certifications and licenses are up-to-date and an interview with our team of former nurses and health professionals to ensure they have the skills to accept shifts in the specialty they’re applying for.

When facilities need a shift or assignment filled, they simply add the shift or assignment information to the platform, hit submit, and the shift will be sent out to nurses and health professionals in the area who match the description of the shift that they’re posting.  Then, when a nurse or health professional applies for a shift, facilities can review their skills and credentials in our easy-to-use platform. If a facility wants more information, they have the opportunity to easily interview the nurse or health professional before they accept the shift. With an all-time fill rate of 90%, thousands of facilities across the country trust Medely to connect them with the best healthcare professionals for the job.

Why Kansas City?

As a healthcare hub with a population of about half a million people, the need for credentialed nurses and health professionals in Kansas City is high, especially as the country is still in a healthcare staffing shortage. One study cites that, “29% of registered nurses and 23% of licensed practical nurses in Kansas are planning to retire within the next five years. And enrollments in nursing education programs are down 39% over the last 10 years.” And a Missouri study shares that, “staff nurse vacancy reached 17.4%.” While Kansas City’s population is just a fraction of the whole population of Missouri and Kansas, these studies can give us insight into the broader state of healthcare within these areas, which remains like most of the country, strained and short-staffed.

Medely’s Kansas City market might be new, but as of now, we already have 225 nurses and health professionals onboarded onto the Medely app that we can activate once facilities start posting shifts. Through Medely’s extensive research into the Kansas City market, we’ve found that the market is filled with pros in specialties that are the most requested on our platform, which includes PACU RNs, Pre-Op RNs, Circulating RNs, Surgical Techs, and MAs.

Benefits of Using Medely

Medely offers a lot of benefits for facilities that are looking for a more effective way to handle staffing shortages. By utilizing Medely, facilities can establish consistent coverage to reduce churn, lower costs associated with hiring full-time staff, find reliable coverage quickly, and gain more control over their workforce strategy.

Save time

When a facility needs to fill a shift or assignment, they can easily book and manage healthcare professionals through our Talent Fusion offering, an all-in-one platform that allows facilities to manage their entire extended workforce in one place and save hours.

When a staffing need arises, it takes just a few minutes for a facility to post a shift. After posting a shift with Talent Fusion, the shift will first go out to the facility’s internal resource pool, helping utilize their existing internal staff pool. If a shift doesn’t get filled using the internal resource pool, the shift will be sent to Medely’s Talent Marketplace. Medely will then do all the heavy lifting by connecting facilities to one of the 300,000+ vetted nurses and health professionals on our platform. If the shift doesn’t get filled through the Talent Marketplace, the shift will go straight to the facility’s agencies through our VMS.

With 70% of shifts filled within two hours of posting, facilities can ensure that they’re fully staffed when they need it, whether it’s a last-minute solution or a planned staff absence.

Prevent employee burnout

If there are any last-minute call-outs or unexpected vacancies, facilities can easily fill them by using Medely without worrying about placing additional strain on their full-time staff. Alleviating extra stress on full-time staff can be a crucial factor in retaining staff and avoiding high turnover rates that can stem from burnout.

Save money

Unlike agencies, there are no hidden fees or costs that pop up unexpectedly. Facilities pay the nurse or health professional for their time worked, no extra fees or costs. Booking through Medely also helps facilities save money by utilizing a contingent workforce over hiring full-time staff members. One facility that used Medely saved 18% compared to hiring a full-time staff member. With our all-in-one platform, facilities can customize their workforce based on their needs at the moment. Sometimes facilities just need a temporary solution to keep up with the ebbs and flows of healthcare rather than a permanent staff member.

Favorites feature

When a facility enjoys working with a particular pro, they can add them to their favorites list to give the pro priority to book an assignment the next time they post a shift. This allows facilities to build a robust list of their favorite nurses and health professionals so that they can have confidence knowing their shift is filled by someone who has been to their facility and was a good fit. If a nurse or health professional doesn’t work out for any reason, facilities can easily block them so shifts posted in the future won’t appear on their Medely app.
